According to the calendar, we are now official in autumn. According to the thermometer, we are still in summer. Here in Brockport we are supposed to reach 90 F today, after being near 80 yesterday. It thought it was supposed to be cold here! Yeah, yeah, I will probably be thinking back on this day with longing in another month or two, but at the moment, I wish it were cooler! The weatherman does predict cool and rainy by the end of the week. I hope he's right.
The leaves are starting to turn in earnest now though, and foliage reports are showing up in the newspaper. These are a bit baffling, as they say things like "A 40% change is expected in the Rochester area." A 40% change in what? Don't all the leaves change from green into some other color? A change in degrees from green? The number of trees that are changing at once? We are planning a couple of trips around the state in the next month, partially to go leaf peeping, as Catherine calls it. (Is that what it is called by natives? Someone who knows, please tell me. I haven't heard or read any other term.)
