I just counted, and I have only read 51 books so far this year. My dad is already at 70ish. Yes, I was in school and really busy for the first half of the year, but I am going to have to do a lot of reading in the next few months if I want to break 100... At least I am not like
the 1 in 4 Americans who didn't read a single book last year!

I have finished 72 books this year. One of them I recently finished was 1130 pages, Neal Stephenson's Cryptonomican. That should count as more than 1 book.
Since 2001 I have read at least 100 books a year. I have always been a counter. So when I was counting books, my yearly totals were going down. So, while Hope was still in High School, one summer vacation, I paid her to go through the 2000 Science Fiction books in my library and enter them all into the computer along with how many pages they were. I record every book I read now.
I can tell you how many pages I have read on average every year since 1995. I can also tell you how much longer most books have gotten. In 1980, the average Science Fiction book was about 260 pages. In 2005, the average was 403 pages. So I was reading fewer books but they were longer. Now I compare the number of pages read. My 2007 average right now is 112 pages per day.
I think I entered all those books in elementary school - I only got a penny a book, and I doubt I would have been available so inexpensively in high school!
