Summer elicits very mixed feelings in me. On the one hand, it is hot and sunny, and I hate hot and sunny. Cold and sunny is fine. Cold and cloudy is fine, but I really don't like the heat. On the other hand, summer means that all of my favorite foods are available - strawberries, blueberries, melon, peaches, tomatoes, pea pods, fresh carrots... Here in Arkansas, I am having to get used to a different harvest schedule than the one I grew up with (strawberries in June, raspberries in July, blueberries in August, peaches in September, apples in October), but since I actually get fruit here (unlike in Texas), I shan't complain too much. Lately, I have been eating a lot of melon, blueberries and peaches. Our local CSA/online farmer's market has had wonderful cantaloupe melons and blueberries, and the small Thursday morning Maumelle market has had great peaches. I am going to have to bestir myself soon to pick some peaches and can them for the winter, but until then, I can enjoy the ones I buy. Mmm...
This picture, by the way, is one of my dad's, from our trip to Japan when I was 6. I have no idea what 30,000 yen is in today's money, but the fruit sure is dressed pretty.
The exchange rate right now is about 90 yen to the dollar (it was more like 110 6 or 7 years ago), so we usually just round off to 100 for estimating convenience. $300!!!
